Closer

Closer is a bench that doesn't force you into a single spatial relationship with your companion. It aims to provide a more organic relationship between people that are close. Closer was awarded the Bronze Prize at the 2009 Seoul Bench Design Competition.
The bench is created from a series of profiles of people from all different ages being close to one another. The result is a sinuous sculptural form, which led us to another important topic: fabrication. The form was broken down into vertical and horizontal developable strips that could be cut and scored in sheets with milling or laser cutting equipment. The two types of strips are then bolted together on top of one another to form a grid structure that should dedicate force evenly over the the form.
